Job summary

The City of Avondale, AZ is seeking a Senior Environmental Technician to support field operations for regulatory compliance sampling programs, including water quality monitoring, sampling, scheduling, and ensuring the drinking water system complies with Federal and State regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act.

Qualifications

• Requires 3+ years in water quality sampling and monitoring.
• Must possess ADEQ Grade II Certification in Water Distribution or Water Treatment at the time of hire.
• Must obtain ADEQ Grade III Certification within one year of hire and maintain it.
• Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, and performs water quality sampling operations and submittals.
• Performs data entry and review in SDWIS and NJBSoft SAMS to ensure compliance.
• Coordinates with supervisors about water quality compliance and responds to related inquiries and issues.
• Coordinates with Engineering to ensure new mains and appurtenances meet drinking water standards before service.
• Mentors and provides field direction to Environmental Technician with SOPs and training.
• Develops sampling plans and SOPs; prepares reports for ADEQ and Maricopa County ES Department.
• Provides inventory and lab support to ensure materials and PPE are ready for activities.
• Represents Public Works at events and supports Tap Trailer program; conducts maintenance and training.
• Assists with backflow testing and pretreatment inspections and sampling of industrial discharges.
