Job summary

The City of Savannah is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment in its drinking water treatment facilities. The role ensures reliable operation, safety, and efficiency of pumps, motors, chlorinators, generators, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, performing complex repairs, directing junior crew members, and maintaining accurate documentation to support regulatory compliance and plant performance.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED with 4 years in mechanical maintenance and repair of water/wastewater plants.
• Valid state Class C Driver's License with acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain mechanical equipment; evaluate performance and recommend repairs.
• Install, service, maintain, and repair pumps, motors, chlorinators, and related machinery.
• Respond to sewer backups and repair lift stations; operate boom/forklift/crane as needed.
• Repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and maintain diesel generators.
• Perform welding and fabrication; maintain Trac-Vac systems and piping.
