Job description

Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. This position is assigned to pay grade G17.

  • Monitors, operates, and maintains wastewater treatment plant equipment and machinery.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs; assists maintenance personnel in major repairs.
  • Checks equipment and monitors processes.
  • Assists in training, assigning, directing, scheduling, and supervising plant operators.
  • Operates valves and start and stop pumps to adjust flow.
  • Operates and maintains heaters.
  • Reviews work orders submitted by plant personnel.
  • Performs the transfer of sludge from digesters.
  • Schedules preventative and corrective maintenance projects with maintenance personnel.
  • Performs the pumping of raw sludge to digester.
  • Scans SCADA system for plant equipment alarms.
  • Contacts emergency personnel in the event of system failures.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate electronic records.
  • Serves as Operations Supervisor in their absence.
  • Collects wastewater samples.
  • Observes, calculates, and interprets results of laboratory process control tests, and takes corrective action to ensure compliance with water quality standard.
  • Interprets lab data and results and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • Changes pH, flow, and temperature charts.
  • Conducts plant tours.
  • Maintains plant buildings and grounds.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with plant staff, outside vendors, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  • Accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Exercises a purchasing authority up to $1,000 without approval from supervisor.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of work experience in a wastewater treatment role or any related work field.
  • Requires Grade “III” Wastewater or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
