Job summary

Durham County Government is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Specialist III to lead senior-level wastewater treatment activities at the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant. You will supervise and mentor staff, coordinate maintenance, and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires knowledge of SCADA systems, CMMS platforms, and strong communication skills. A rotating shift schedule is possible, with opportunities to contribute to safety and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques used in wastewater treatment operations.
• Thorough knowledge of chemical, physical, and bacteriological analyses of wastewater.
• Strong ability to operate and maintain treatment plant equipment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance with operations and maintenance staff to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports for compliance and internal tracking.
• Lead and participate in operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment processes including influent pumping, primary/secondary treatment, disinfection, and sludge handling.
• Assist in inventory control and procurement of equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
• Prepare monthly work schedules and coordinate sampling for process control and compliance.
• Monitor process control parameters with SCADA and field instruments; provide BORC backup when needed.
