Job summary

The Hershey Company in Lancaster, PA, is seeking a Wastewater/Water Systems Operator to keep our production facilities compliant, safe, and running smoothly. You will monitor and operate wastewater pretreatment and reverse osmosis systems, document performance, and coordinate with maintenance and plant teams.

Applicants should have a background in environmental engineering or a related field, and a Pennsylvania DEP Wastewater Operator certification is required.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of wastewater treatment and reverse osmosis water system operating principles.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, system data, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong computer, documentation, communication, assessment, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Pennsylvania DEP Wastewater Operator certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, test, inspect, and document wastewater pre-treatment and RO water systems.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and support maintenance and projects.
• Maintain operating records, discharge parameters, permits, reports, and maintenance documentation according to requirements.
• Coordinate residual, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste removal and support recycling activities.
• Support environmental and safety programs, including stormwater monitoring, spill response, confined space, asbestos, and radiation safety activities.
• Work with internal teams, on-site contractors, auditors, inspectors, and external agencies; provide training/documentation support.
• Participate in an alternating on-call and weekend schedule to support a 24/7 operation.
