Job summary

The Hershey Company in Lancaster, PA, seeks a Wastewater Operator to operate and monitor wastewater pre-treatment and reverse osmosis systems, ensuring safe, compliant manufacturing operations.

You will coordinate with plant operations, engineering, maintenance, EHS, and contractors; maintain discharge records and regulatory documentation; and support environmental and safety programs. A 24/7 on-call schedule is required.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1+ years of relevant experience in waste water treatment, water systems, environmental compliance, industrial utilities, manufacturing operations, or a related technical field.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a related technical field preferred.
• Working knowledge of waste water treatment and reverse osmosis water system operating principles.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, system data, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong computer, documentation, communication, assessment, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Pennsylvania DEP Wastewater Operator certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, test, inspect, and document waste water pre-treatment and reverse osmosis water systems, including system readings, treatment conditions, anaerobic reactor performance, and biogas operations.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and support maintenance and defined segments of improvement projects to strengthen reliability and operational efficiency.
• Maintain required operating records, discharge parameters, permits, reports, and maintenance documentation in accordance with company and applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
• Coordinate residual, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste removal and support recycling activities that reduce waste sent to landfill.
• Support environmental and safety programs, including stormwater monitoring, spill response, confined space, asbestos, and radiation safety activities, as assigned.
• Work effectively with internal teams, on-site contractors, auditors, inspectors, and external agencies, and provide required training or documentation support.
• Participate in an alternating on-call and weekend schedule and provide schedule flexibility to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
