Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in the United States is seeking a Senior Warehouse/Packaging Technician for our Animal Health facility in De Soto, KS. The role supports packaging operations, labeling, filling, and palletization in a regulated GMP environment.

You will work within a team to ensure daily production and schedule adherence, with attention to detail and documentation practices. Weekend shifts, overtime, and training of new staff are part of the job, along with safety and quality requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4+ years relevant experience or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Effective verbal and written communication at all levels.
  • Follow SOPs and regulatory policies.
  • Proficient with MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Willing to work overtime and shift requirements.
  • Experience with aseptic processes and GMP.
  • Experience with SAP or ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work within packaging operations to complete daily production activities.
  • Maintain schedule adherence for packaging processes.
  • Complete process documentation using Good Documentation Practices.
  • Assist with cycle counting and inventory reconciliation.
  • Operate forklift and pallet jack; assist with equipment setup and operation.
  • Support training of new team members.

Summary, Focus and Purpose

A Senior Warehouse / Packaging Technician position is available at our Animal Health facility in De Soto, Kansas, located near Kansas City metropolitan area. The DeSoto facility is expanding operations to manufacturing vaccines and biologics for large and companion animals and leveraging an experienced and innovative team environment, the key technologies at the site are biologics production using fermentation and cell culture platforms, filling and packaging.

Working within the packaging operations teams

Working within the packaging operations teams you will be expected to be able to work independently and as part of the team to contribute to the daily completion and schedule adherence of production activities. The packaging operation is made up of teams that carry out the day to day production activities of sealed bottle label application, bottle packaging, palletization, process document completion, cycle counting, and inventory reconciliation.

Position Requirements

The position requires someone who can demonstrate good attention to detail and achieve a consistent error-free execution of daily job responsibilities, be able to complete documentation using Good Documentation Practices and be able to identify opportunities for process improvement and employ basic problem-solving skills.

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum 4 years of relevant work experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study.
Required
  • Principled verbal and written communications and to effectively communicate information to colleagues at various levels.
  • Follow/comply with Manufacturing/Packaging Directions, Standard Operating Procedures, Company/Corporate/Regulatory Policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic skills in effective time management to meet given deadlines.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with team members and show initiative to support others on the team.
  • Proficient with basic computer skills including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed due to business demands.
  • Assist in training new team members.
  • Operation of a company forklift and pallet jack.
  • Assist with equipment set‑up and operation.
Preferred
  • Experience working in a manufacturing/packaging environment.
  • Good understanding of aseptic processes used in manufacturing/packaging.
  • Experience using quality improvement tools and continuous improvement processes and site quality metrics.
  • Experience in SAP or other ERP system.
Working Conditions
  • This position is Weekend Shift Friday – Monday, work hours are 8:00am - 6:30pm.
  • Flexibility working overtime, including holidays and weekdays, when business needs demand.
  • Travel is not a part of this position.
  • Climate controlled and areas that are not climate-controlled.
Salary

$59,100 - $93,000

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

Bonus and Incentives

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
