Job summary

The Fortune Society, Inc. in Long Island City, NY, seeks an Associate Vice President of Communications to lead branding, public relations, digital engagement, and executive communications. Reporting to the Chief Development & Communications Officer, this role shapes Fortune’s mission and thought leadership across audiences.

You will supervise staff and consultants, collaborate with the CEO and senior leaders, and advance donor engagement while guiding fundraising communications and major events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 8+ years in nonprofit communications or development.
• Exceptional written and verbal skills; public speaking confidence.
• Experience supervising staff and managing cross-functional projects.
• Knowledge of donor engagement and fundraising preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop Fortune’s comprehensive communications strategy to strengthen visibility, reputation, and public engagement.
• Supervise the Communications Manager and consultants responsible for website, publications, social media, branding, and digital communications.
• Shape executive communications, public statements, and thought leadership with the CEO and senior leadership.
• Collaborate with leadership and external PR firm to increase media visibility and strengthen Fortune’s public profile.
• Lead donor engagement and fundraising communications; support major events and campaigns.
