Job summary

BNY Mellon is seeking a Senior SVP, Equities Mainframe Engineer to join our Equities team in Lake Mary, FL or Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll design, develop, and maintain applications across front-end and back-end stacks, migrating legacy systems toward scalable microservices and cloud architectures using AI-enabled tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 8–12 years of software development experience, with mainframe proficiency.
• Experience supporting and maintaining OMS on mainframe.
• Ability to deliver BAU enhancements, maintenance, and system updates.
• Lead investigation, development, testing, and deployment of fixes for production issues.

We're seeking a SVP, Equities Mainframe Engineer professional to join our Equities team in Lake Mary, FL or Pittsburgh, PA.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:

• Involved in design, development and maintain applications incorporating both front-end and back-end technologies.
• Programming well-designed, testable, efficient code.
• Integrate software components into a fully functional software system.
• Consults with Product and Business groups to provide high-level application software development services.
• Actively participate in code reviews.
• Mentoring junior developers.
• Analyzes the situation and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues.
• Taking a hands‑on approach to understanding business drivers and the products we work with.
• Driving innovation and continuous improvements within our development and operational practices.
• Helping re‑engineer, modernize our platform and drive migration to a scalable microservice, cloud based. architecture using AI and other cutting edge development tools.
• Working cross‑functionally with various stakeholders, trading systems, and running operational procedures to ensure our applications are risk managed efficiently and systematically.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required.
• 8 to 12 years of experience in software development required - proficiency in Mainframe
• Support and maintain the legacy Order Management System (OMS) on the mainframe platform.
• Deliver BAU enhancements, maintenance, and system updates.
• Lead investigation, development, testing, and deployment of fixes for production issues and defects.

Provide support for internal and external audits, including documentation and compliance activities.

• Collaborate with business and technology teams to ensure system stability and timely issue resolution.
• Utilize COBOL, JCL, DB2, MQ, Control-M, CICS, VSAM, and related mainframe technologies to support and enhance the application environment.
• Exposure to front‑end languages, libraries and frameworks (Angular, HTML/ CSS, TypeScript/JavaScript, jQuery)
• Working knowledge in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, ORM, Spring Data libraries.
• Experience of working in Oracle or SQL Server.
• Experience & Good Understanding of Messaging frameworks like IBM MQ or Kafka.
• Experience in Caching frameworks and FIX protocol are added advantages.
• Good experience in SDLC, DevOps processes - CI/CD tools, Git, etc.
• Knowledge of Scrum and Agile methodologies and ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with one or more AI vibe‑coding and coding‑assist tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, etc)
• Experience in the securities or financial services industry with focus on Equities.
• Previous experience designing and implementing new systems and features across platforms.
• Understanding of trade life cycles for equities.
• Brings production support experience and can troubleshoot issues under pressure.
• Previous experience with application profiling and debugging.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
