A premier veterinary teaching hospital in Manhattan is seeking an experienced Senior Veterinarian - Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) to join its Emergency Department.
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing advanced veterinary care, education, and research. The facility sees approximately 55,000 patient visits annually and has a professional staff of more than 140 veterinarians across 20+ specialties.

- 10 board-certified ECC specialists
- 7 internship-trained emergency doctors
- 9 ECC residents
- 35 licensed veterinary technicians, including several VTS-certified in ECC

Position Responsibilities
The Senior Veterinarian will play an integral role within the Emergency and Critical Care Department.
Responsibilities Include
- Receiving and managing emergency cases in a high-acuity environment
- Providing advanced emergency and critical care
- Overseeing and mentoring veterinary interns and ECC residents
- Monitoring ICU patients during overnight rotations
- Collaborating with board-certified criticalists, ECC residents, and specialists
- Supporting clinical education and mentorship
- Participating in continuing education opportunities
- Staying current with emergency and critical care literature and best practices
- Working collaboratively within a non-competitive, multidisciplinary environment
The schedule may include daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, depending on departmental needs. Senior ER veterinarians work alongside other senior ER doctors, criticalists, and rotating interns.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
- Completion of a 1-year rotating internship
- Must be currently practicing as an emergency veterinarian
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising or mentoring veterinary interns or residents
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary veterinary hospital
- Interest in teaching and continuing education in emergency and critical care
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency environment
