Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks an Associate Director of Venture Development for the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS). Reporting to the Director of IALS Venture Development, you will manage programs, mentor MBA Fellows and undergraduates, and coordinate collaborations with external venture mentors and industry partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years in startup, research and development, venture accelerator or similar environment (or Associate’s degree with 7+ years).
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, OneDrive, MS Teams) and Adobe Acrobat, including advanced Excel.
• Familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Calendar).
• Ability to work accurately with data and generate relevant reports; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Manage operational planning and implementation for established IALS Venture Development programs and resources.
• Oversee development of pre-startups and startups; supervise small teams and create market analyses, financial models and pitch materials.
• Serve as a navigator and resource for faculty and student founders; connect and arrange services to advance early-stage ventures.
• Collaborate with leadership to design, develop and implement new programs.
• Build awareness of ventures through news, web content, social media, and events for campus and external audiences.
• Cultivate faculty and student interest in university-based startups and translational research.
