About the Company: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Photonics Validation Engineer to lead the development and execution of validation strategies for cutting-edge photonics products. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in photonic devices, optical systems, and automated test infrastructure. You will work closely with design, packaging, firmware, and product engineering teams to ensure product performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications from prototype to production.

About the Role: The Senior Photonics Validation Engineer will be responsible for leading the validation efforts for photonics products, ensuring they meet the required specifications and performance standards.

Responsibilities:

• Develop comprehensive validation plans for photonics components and systems, including lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and integrated photonics.
• Design and implement automated test setups for optical, electrical, and thermal characterization.
• Analyze test results and provide detailed reports with clear conclusions and recommendations for design or process improvements.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to define test specifications and identify root causes of performance deviations.
• Own the bring-up, calibration, and debugging of photonic systems in lab environments.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements (e.g., IEEE, Telcordia).
• Contribute to the development of custom tools/scripts (Python, LabVIEW, etc.) to improve test efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior validation engineers and technicians.
• Interface with external vendors or partners for specialized testing or equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in photonics validation or test engineering.
• Proficiency with optical test equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, interferometers, BERTs, etc.).
• Strong understanding of photonic device physics and system-level performance metrics.
• Experience with automated test environments and data acquisition tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
• Hands-on experience with high-speed electrical and optical measurements.

Preferred:

• Experience with silicon photonics, PICs (Photonic Integrated Circuits), or coherent optical communication systems.
• Knowledge of packaging and thermal management of photonic components.
• Familiarity with design tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, or similar.
• Experience working in a production or high-reliability environment (e.g., telecom/datacom, aerospace, medical devices).
