GovCIO is seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to support a growing portfolio of VA digital experiences. This role will execute user-centered design and validation activities in close partnership with Product Managers, UI Designers, SMEs, and the UX Lead, helping improve usability, adoption, and workflow alignment for Veterans and clinical users. This is a fully remote role located within the United States.
This role is hands-on and execution-focused, supporting user-centered validation activities across the product lifecycle, including usability sessions, UAT, and iterative design improvements informed by user feedback and operational context. The designer will also contribute UI and high-fidelity prototyping work grounded in Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles, translating research insights and user needs into tangible, testable design artifacts.
Support UX execution for an assigned product portfolio, partnering with PMs, UI Designers, SMEs, and stakeholders
Partner with designers and independently create UI designs and high-fidelity prototypes grounded in Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles, ensuring solutions align with veteran needs, clinical workflows, and usability best practices
Develop task-based UAT scenarios and success criteria aligned to user workflows and release objectives
Support and facilitate UAT sessions, including preparation, observation, synthesis of findings, and recommendations
Conduct or support lightweight user touchpoints such as usability sessions, feedback reviews, and validation activities
Translate user insights and UX guidance into product-specific flows, interactions, and recommendations
Support iterative improvements based on user feedback, UAT findings, HCD input, and stakeholder feedback
Support UX and usability improvements for telehealth and virtual care workflows, informed by operational context and end-user feedback
Identify and elevate usability risks, insights, and opportunities to PMs and the UX Lead
Participate in accessibility and usability forums supporting continuous product improvement
Contribute to product recommendations that improve user adoption, workflow fit, and experience quality
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience.
8-10 years of relevant UX, UI, usability, product design, or related experience
Demonstrated understanding and experience creating UI designs and high-fidelity, interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, anchored in Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles and informed by user research to support iterative, evidence-based product development.
Experience supporting usability evaluations, task-based testing, or user-centered product validation
Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, and developers
Clear understanding of Agile methodologies.
Strong written, analytical, facilitation, and communication skills
Experience supporting government digital products
Experience supporting UAT planning or facilitation
Familiarity with accessibility principles and inclusive design
Experience working within Agile product teams
Knowledge of clinical workflows and healthcare operational processes preferred
Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or familiarity with VA systems preferred
Experience with VA Telehealth operations, workflows, and tools (including virtual care platforms) strongly desired
