Job summary

Steampunk.com is seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to guide federal clients through the Design Intelligence framework. You will lead discovery, research, prototyping, and testing to create intuitive, accessible interfaces aligned with mission goals.

Qualifications

  • Strong portfolio showing methods, tools, and craft.
  • Proficiency in primary/secondary research: interviews, workshops, heuristic evaluations, card sorting.

About The Role

The Senior UX/UI Designer at Steampunk.com plays a critical role in guiding government clients through the application of the Design Intelligence™ framework. This role involves applying human-centered design principles to address complex user experience challenges, ensuring that solutions are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with client mission goals. The Senior UX/UI Designer will lead initiatives from discovery through interface design, including research, prototyping, iteration, visual design, usability testing, and accessibility validation. Acting as the voice of the customer, they will collaborate with cross-functional teams within an agile environment to translate user needs into effective digital experiences. The position requires a strategic thinker with a strong portfolio, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven setting. The Senior UX/UI Designer will also serve as a mentor to junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes within the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a current DEA Public Trust clearance and demonstrate extensive experience working with Design Intelligence™ methodologies. A minimum of three years of professional UX and UI experience designing solutions for multi-platform digital products is required. Candidates should have a comprehensive portfolio showcasing their ideology, methods, tools, and craft. Expertise in primary and secondary user research, including interviews, workshops, heuristic evaluations, and card sorting, is essential, along with the ability to translate insights into personas, journey maps, and information architecture. Proficiency in UI design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, and Zeplin is necessary, along with experience conducting accessibility testing and ensuring 508 compliance. Familiarity with Agile frameworks, writing user stories, and integrating research into technical sprints is highly valued. A background in HCD, HCI, or UX design, along with relevant certifications, will strengthen candidacy. Bonus points include prior federal government experience, consulting background, and experience with Salesforce implementations.

The role involves translating user insights into actionable design solutions, ensuring high-quality deliverables across multiple projects. They will also advocate for user needs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring solutions meet accessibility standards and technical specifications. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior designers, continuously refining design processes, and staying current with industry best practices to recommend innovative tools and techniques.
