Senior Utility Technician (DCOPS) Eligible for Hiring/Retention Incentive

Grade: 14 - Starting Hourly Rate: $22.00. The pay rate depends on qualifications.

SENIOR UTILITY TECHNICIAN Grade: 14 - Starting Hourly Rate: $22.00. Hiring/Retention Incentive External candidates hired by SAWS will receive a $1,000 Hiring Incentive, split into two payments of $500 on the second and fourth paycheck. After completing a six-month introductory period, the new hire is eligible for an additional $1,000 Retention Incentive, paid during the seventh month. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, life insurance, retirement plans, paid leave and holidays, tuition reimbursement, and more as detailed on www.saws.org.

Job Summary

The Senior Utility Technician performs manual and skilled labor for repair, construction, and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Essential Functions

  • Performs manual labor including installation of pipes and fittings for water and wastewater systems.
  • Operates dump trucks, crew trucks, front-end loaders, skid loaders, and similar equipment.
  • Excavates and backfills trenches for repairs.
  • Transports equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites, complying with safety regulations.
  • Loads and unloads materials from trucks.
  • Stocks vehicles with necessary equipment and materials.
  • Maintains facilities, tools, and equipment.
  • Follows safety procedures and promotes safety at work.
  • Interprets maps and assists with setting up work zones and traffic control.
  • Manages inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Provides training on tool and equipment usage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Decision Making

  • Works under immediate supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.
