Job summary

The City of Ocala is seeking a highly responsible planning professional to assist the Planning Director in monitoring and managing the planning division. This role reports directly to the Deputy Planning Director and involves extensive coordination with city departments and commissions.

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in urban planning, a minimum of 8 years of related experience, and a solid understanding of state laws and land development regulations.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, or public administration; Master’s preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review planning division operations including zoning applications, amendments to the comprehensive plan, variances and special exceptions, annexations, site plans, and related planning projects.
• Coordinate with City Departments in updating land development regulations and verify code amendments.
• Assist in updating the City’s comprehensive plan and monitor changes in the community.
• Provide staff assistance to planning commissions and advisory boards.
• Lead projects and provide direct customer service to professionals, the public, and City employees.
