Job summary

City of Arlington, Washington seeks a Senior/Associate Planner with advanced planning experience to lead complex projects and provide professional planning support to the Planning Manager.

The role includes coordinating environmental impact studies, reviews of site and architectural plans, and presenting findings to boards and city councils. Occasional evening meetings and outdoor site inspections are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geography, urban planning, environmental planning, or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in urban land use planning and development. Master’s Degree may substitute for 2-years of experience.
• CNU accreditation (Congress for the New Urbanism).
• AICP certification (American Institute of Certified Planners).
• Valid Washington State Driver License and driving record acceptable to the City.

Responsibilities

• Oversees complex planning projects including analyzing and evaluating site and architectural plans, performing technical review for routine project plans and applications, and making recommendations.
• Coordinates and performs research and analyses pertaining to the Comprehensive Plan, subarea plans, grant programs, related municipal ordinances and policy; prepares reports and recommendations.
• Writes and reviews initial studies; coordinates environmental impact reports and determinations; reviews environmental documents of other agencies.
• Provides direction to assigned planners; coordinates and reviews preparation of reports and correspondence; provides input on performance.
