Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in Massachusetts seeks an Upstream Process Development Scientist III to support tech transfer, development, and scale-up for viral vector manufacturing in a cGMP setting. This hands-on role requires strong data interpretation, documentation, and teamwork across project teams.

You will lead multiple programs, review data with customers, and train junior scientists while focusing on QbD and regulatory readiness. Flexibility for weekend/evening work is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, (bio)chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• B.S with 5+ years’ experience in a process development/manufacturing environment, Master’s with 2+ years of experience or Ph.D.
• Expertise in gene therapy product and/or process development is required. Knowledge of lentivirus upstream process development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design, planning and execution of tech transfer, process development and scale-up activities (bench and pilot scale).
• Prepare and modify development plans, batch records, SOPs, protocols, and reports.
• Serve as project lead and manage timelines and tasks across multiple programs.
• Technically review data and collaborate with customers on experimental design.
• Serve as SME in process development and train junior scientists.
