Job summary

Sumitomo Biorational Company in Libertyville, IL seeks a Senior Fermentation Scientist to lead upstream process development at the Biorational Research Center. You will conduct fermentation experiments in lab- and pilot-scale bioreactors and evaluate microbial strain performance with data interpretation.

You will collaborate with fermentation scientists, downstream engineers, formulations scientists, and analytical chemists to advance sustainable BioAgriculture solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience culturing microorganisms using aseptic techniques.
• Hands-on work with lab- and pilot-scale bioreactors for microbial production.
• Ability to train junior scientists and collaborate in teams.
• Strong communication and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize upstream processes for microbial production.
• Mentor team members and ensure safe use of equipment.
• Coordinate tech transfer between R&D and manufacturing.
• Operate pilot-scale fermentation equipment and troubleshoot.
• Collaborate with data scientists and IT to manage run data.
