Job summary

ADM seeks a Scientist I to support benchtop and pilot-scale fermentation at the Decatur, IL R&D center. You will drive experiments from 7.5 L to 100 L, maintain systems, and ensure aseptic technique while documenting results for technical teams.

Responsibilities include protocol execution, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional groups. A related bachelor’s degree and hands-on fermentation experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in fermentation science, microbiology, biochemical engineering, biotechnology, biology, chemistry, or related field.
• 2–3 years of relevant laboratory/fermentation experience preferred.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols with accuracy and attention to safety.

Responsibilities

• Execute benchtop and pilot-scale fermentation experiments from 7.5 L to 100 L for R&D projects.
• Set up, operate, monitor, sample, clean, and maintain fermentation systems and equipment.
• Follow SOPs and safety requirements to ensure quality and compliance.
• Record conditions, parameters, observations, and results in batch records and notebooks.
• Troubleshoot processes and equipment, implement corrective actions as needed.
• Contribute to protocol development, data interpretation, and cross-functional communication.
