Job summary

University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI), a Sacramento State nonprofit auxiliary, seeks an experienced General Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance to the UEI Board and administration. The role spans real estate, grants, employment law, and regulatory compliance, with a focus on protecting organizational integrity.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Minimum 10 years as an attorney licensed in California; at least 4 years in-house counsel.
• Experience supervising other attorneys and leading teams.
• Active California State Bar license in good standing.
• Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
• Strong negotiation abilities and prioritization under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Drafts, reviews, and structures diverse agreements including leases, contracts, and sponsored programs while ensuring compliance with laws and CSU policies.
• Advises leadership and Board on litigation, risk, and insurance; monitors evolving laws to protect operations.
• Develops policies and oversees contract/insurance compliance; ensures transparency and open meeting law adherence.
• Provides legal guidance to management, coordinates with outside counsel, manages disputes, and delivers training for the Board and university leadership.
