Church Pension Group is seeking a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant to provide advanced administrative and technical support to Commercial Lines Underwriters. The role focuses on ensuring efficient underwriting workflows, high-quality service to agents and insureds, and continuous process improvements.

The position is hybrid, requiring in-person collaboration at the VT office part of the week, with strong emphasis on training, mentoring, and leveraging technology to enhance accuracy

Qualifications

• 2+ years working in insurance property & casualty industry or related experience.
• Associates degree and/or combination of education & equivalent experience highly preferred.

Description Department: Church Insurance Job Type: Regular Full Time Education Level: AA/AS or combination of education and experience Required Years Experience: 2 For more than 90 years, The Church Insurance Companies (CIC) has focused on providing The Episcopal Church with broad, cost-effective property and casualty coverage, as well as unique risk management strategies and tools. This team takes a disciplined, financially sustainable, and hands-on approach. Underwriting is responsible for the collection, review and evaluation of risk exposure to loss, creating insurance coverage, terms and conditions to meet the needs of current and prospective policyholders. The Senior Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant provides advanced administrative, technical, and operational support to Commercial Lines Underwriters while serving as a key partner in maintaining efficient underwriting workflows. This role is responsible for supporting complex underwriting activities, identifying opportunities to improve processes and procedures, leveraging technology solutions to enhance effectiveness, and helping ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality service to agents, insureds, and internal stakeholders. The Senior Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant also serves as a resource and mentor to other team members and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives across the underwriting operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Request, gather, evaluate and document underwriting information from agency on insured or prospective insureds as needed.
• Perform prep work on new and renewal business including evaluation of loss experience, highlighting details of exposure, follow-up on outstanding underwriting information and general assessment of coverage and pricing for underwriting review.
• Order and analyze underwriting reports for review by underwriters
• Independently review and assess completed loss control/risk management reports
• Analyze and process endorsements requested based on authority level and completed within a prescribed time frame.
• Establish and foster a positive and collaborative working relationship with agency staff, billing and claims staff.
• Evaluate underwriting workflows, processes, and procedures on an ongoing basis and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, consistency, and customer experience.
• Participate in the development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of underwriting processes, procedures, and best practices.
• Leverage technology tools and automation solutions to streamline work, improve productivity, and enhance operational effectiveness.
• Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and emerging business needs and recommend solutions to management.
• Assist with testing and implementation of new systems, workflows, and technology enhancements.
• Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistants while promoting best practices and process consistency across the team.

Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 2+years working in insurance property & casualty industry or related experience.
• Associates degree and/or combination of education & equivalent experience highly preferred. Combination of work and experience considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Commuting to the VT office, on average, three days a week. Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Salary Range

$54,700 - $70,000
