Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company in the United States seeks a Senior Underwriter to join the Excess & Surplus Lines Small Commercial team, based in Boston or Atlanta, underwriting General Liability and Property to grow the E&S Small Commercial book.

You will evaluate accounts, price, and structure, build broker relationships, and collaborate with management to shape product offerings, guidelines, and policy forms in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Typically 5+ years of relevant Small Commercial underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated Small Commercial insurance experience with an insurer, broker, or equivalent environment.
• Technical underwriting capability across Property and Casualty, including risk evaluation, pricing, and coverage analysis.
• Experience interpreting policy forms and applying underwriting appetite, guidelines, or controls.
• Ability to analyze information, organize priorities, and communicate decisions clearly in writing and verbally.
• Experience building relationships with distribution partners, management, and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to profitable growth of the E&S Small Commercial book by underwriting General Liability and Property.
• Evaluate, select, structure, and price small commercial accounts to support risk selection.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with distribution partners and intermediaries.
• Partner with management to develop the small commercial platform, underwriting appetite, guidelines, and policy forms.
• Analyze account information and prioritize underwriting decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Represent BHSI with integrity and collaborate across the team to deliver customer-focused solutions.
