Job summary

AXA XL is seeking a Senior Underwriter for the West Middle Market to help build and expand our presence in the West Territory. You will underwrite new and renewal business, work with actuarial and claims to achieve profitable results, and develop your annual desk plan.

You will travel for broker and client meetings, maintain strong broker relationships, and represent AXA XL at industry events while collaborating with teammates to drive growth and cross-sell across the Middle Market unit.

Our Middle Markets business serves mid-sized customers across the U.S. Commercial P&C market and is in an exciting phase of growth. As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a key role in helping build and expand our presence in the West Territory, partnering with brokers and clients to deliver tailored underwriting solutions, drive profitable growth, and shape the future of our Middle Market business.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Underwriting both new and renewal business. Assisting in achieving profitable premium and rate goals, working with actuarial and claims to successfully delivering results consistent with financial plan.
• Contribute to planning through the development and execution of your own annual desk-level underwriting plan.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines, underwriting authorities and referral requirements as needed to Underwriting Manager and Chief Underwriting Officer.
• Ensuring high quality service standards and compliance with all internal audit guidelines.
• Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants and management team.
• Travel throughout the territory for broker, client, and internal meetings.
• Developing, maintaining and servicing broker relationships within the distribution model. Coordinate with brokers to determine their marketing and education needs supported by AXAXL Middle Market.
• Acting as a representative of the company and our agents by attending internal/external company functions, agent sponsored and industry events.
• Cross-sell across Middle Market business unit to maximize deployment of AXA XL’s capital.

You will report to the Underwriting Manager, West Middle Market.

What You Will BRING

• Outstanding knowledge of the US insurance industry, combined with in-depth technical knowledge of P&C product offerings and effective broker relationships.
• A moderate amount of Middle Market insurance experience (e.g., underwriting, claims, or insurance related business development experience).
• Consistently pursue opportunities to differentiate AXA XL in the industry through our offerings and how we conduct business.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service focus is a must.
• Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD $107,600- $209,100. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
