Job summary

Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group (BMAG), a member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, is seeking an experienced underwriter and sales leader for the Eastern Pennsylvania territory.

The role focuses on strategically underwriting complex risks across multiple lines and actively engaging with agents and brokers to grow middle market business. You will work with internal partners to align pricing, segmentation, and product development, while maintaining high underwriting discipline and compliant practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience and training.
• 7+ years of commercial lines sales and underwriting experience with extensive knowledge of industry practices, trends, and a proven sales track record.
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills and effective communication to build rapport with agency partners, principals, producers, and staff.
• Valid driver’s license for travel.
• Willingness to travel within the territory; overnight stays may be occasional.

Responsibilities

• Independently underwrite complex middle market risks across Property, General Liability, Auto, Umbrella, and Workers’ Compensation, focusing on profitability and underwriting appetite.
• Collaborate with Loss Control, Claims, and Actuarial to incorporate technical insights into account-level strategies.
• Maintain underwriting discipline, documentation, and regulatory/internal compliance.
• Monitor market trends and competitive positioning to inform underwriting approach and product refinement.
• Lead enterprise portfolio management and collaborate with actuarial, finance, and product teams to develop pricing and segmentation strategies.
• Engage with agents and brokers to drive new business production and retention within the middle market segment.
• Deliver customized solutions using product knowledge and client needs alignment.
• Participate in industry events and client presentations to build visibility and relationships.
