We are growing rapidly and seeking to hire a Sr Underwriter to work in our Central Zone.

This position is a remote role. Candidate must be situated in Chicagoland or Texas to be considered for the position.

Position Overview

Sr. Underwriter is responsible for underwriting commercial accounts (GL, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Umbrella). She/he/they works with agents to develop new business opportunities and marketable rates based on account needs and market conditions. This position covers an underwriting territory and requires availability to travel for marketing and underwriting meetings.

This Position Is Responsible For
  1. Profitably producing and underwriting insurance business within the level of authority.
  2. Concentrating on complex casualty exposures for corporate customers with premium in excess of $1M or with loss-sensitive structures (Deductibles / SIRs).
  3. Negotiating pricing, collateral, and coverage conditions with brokers, in line with underwriting guidelines.
  4. Supervising Underwriting Associates in the preparation and checking of underwriting documents.
  5. Liaising with brokers, clients, and carriers, providing superior customer service.
  6. Assisting Regional Team Leads by providing information and support as required.
  7. Participating in the development of business strategies and budget forecasts.
  8. Ensuring that underwriting data is accurate and entered into the core management system promptly.
  9. Complying with all applicable policies and procedures relevant to documentation standards.
  10. Attending meetings with brokers and clients, actively contributing new ideas.
Experience And Skill Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree required or on-the-job experience.
  2. A minimum of 10 years' experience underwriting at a Casualty carrier.
  3. Sound knowledge of insurance with specific reference to Casualty lines of business.
  4. Knowledge of the insurance market both at national and international levels.
  5. Availability to travel.
  6. Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Strong computer technical acumen with expert knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  9. Experience and relationships with agents.
  10. International experience is a plus.
