Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underwriting casualty lines (General liability, Worker’s Comp, Commercial Auto, Excess Liability).
  • Pollution experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills for complex risks; tailored solutions.
  • Expertise in risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Establish relationships with brokers—retail and wholesale.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools; MS Office.

  • Evaluate data to determine coverage terms and pricing; assess exposures.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Environmental Casualty team in Houston. This role is responsible for expanding and managing an existing primary and excess portfolio. The Senior Underwriter will oversee all aspects of portfolio management, including solicitation of submissions, underwriting analysis, and the preparation and issuance of indications, quotations, and binders. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in casualty underwriting, strong broker relationships, and the ability to deliver quality service while achieving company goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Solicit, analyze, and underwrite new and renewal business of Combined Form Package (General liability, Pollution, Professional Liability), Commercial Auto, Workers Compensation and Excess Liability.
  • Conduct thorough underwriting analysis by evaluating and interpreting data to assess risks and potential exposures, determining appropriate coverage terms and pricing for each policy.
  • Prepare and issue indications, quotations, and binders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Track pipeline activity and provide weekly production forecasts to management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, as well as clients, to ensure high levels of service and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with underwriting team members and other departments to achieve company objectives.
  • Monitor account performance, making recommendations for improvements or changes as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, guidelines, and changes to policy forms and endorsements.
  • Participate in marketing and sales meetings within assigned territories, including travel as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underwriting casualty lines of coverage including General Liability, Worker’s Compensation, Commercial Auto, and Excess Liability.
  • Pollution experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and develop tailored solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiation, and presentation skills, with a professional demeanor in both written and verbal interactions.
  • Established relationships with brokers – retail and wholesale.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and tools, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite.
