As a Senior Underwriter, a significant proportion of your responsibilities will be production, underwriting, and servicing new business opportunities in support of the organization's strategic and business goals. Assess individual risks, help monitor and manage the exposure trends of the company’s book, work with leadership to analyze, interpret and develop guidelines for the underwriting team, and work closely with other departments including claims, loss control, operations, and business development.

Established in 2008 and based in Sarasota, Florida, Beacon Aviation Insurance Services, an Amynta Company, offers insurance and risk management solutions to the general aviation industry.

Our experience and expertise in providing insurance coverage and risk-management solutions extend to a full range of general aviation businesses: Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), Maintenance Repair and Overhaul operations (MROs), Municipal Airports, Airline Services, Aviation Manufacturers and Suppliers, Charter Operators, Flight Schools, and Corporate/Industrial Aid.

What will some of your essential responsibilities include?

  1. Seeking out new account opportunities to maintain a flow of new production that is in alignment with company goals and objectives.
  2. Maintain a book of renewal business.
  3. Strive for excellence in service through meeting account service expectations and timely problem resolution.
  4. Work closely with the underwriting team and support staff, helping to mentor staff and foster a supportive team environment.
  5. Work with leadership to analyze, interpret, and implement underwriting goals, results, and changes.
  6. Provide underwriting guideline recommendations to leadership to help improve underwriting results.
  7. Assist with preparing results, reports, and other materials.
  8. Help develop underwriting policies and procedures to ensure underwriting consistency, risk analysis/account documentation, and alignment with underwriting audit goals.
  9. Assist with underwriting audits and implementation of carrier recommendations.
  10. Monitor internal and external environments for factors that can impact underwriting.
  11. Interact with agents/brokers as needed via phone, email, and in person. Help manage broker relations in alignment with business development strategy.
  12. Ensure processes are consistently meeting or exceeding customer and organization’s service level expectations.
  13. Update and oversee various underwriting reports.
  14. Display a firm understanding of company, bureau, and state rules and filings.
  15. Research and acquire knowledge on industry conditions and competing carriers’ pricing and coverage strategies, business developments, etc.
  16. Assist with sales forecasts, company goals, and targets.
  17. Assist with sales and marketing and attend industry conferences.
  18. Act as a brand ambassador, helping to advance the company’s reputation and position in the marketplace.
  19. Display professionalism and work with high ethical standards at all times.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  1. Previous experience working within the aviation insurance environment and commercial insurance underwriting process.
  2. Professional Designations such as CPCU, AU, or CAIP preferred.
  3. College graduate preferred and/or five to seven years prior experience within the insurance market.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
  7. Solid technical skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and other computer systems.
  8. Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment requiring good judgment.
  9. Strong demonstration of initiative, interpersonal skills, and a professional demeanor are critical.
  10. Client service experience and focus.
  11. A proven proactive approach to growing personal knowledge and skillset while supporting and improving the business through accurate and timely working habits.
