Job Description

We are seeking a Financial Underwriter III with expertise in Short Term and Long Term Disability (STD/LTD) underwriting to join our team remotely. This role supports both prospective and renewal clients in the small and mid-market group segments, providing financial analysis, risk assessment, and pricing recommendations.

You will collaborate with Sales and internal stakeholders to deliver accurate and well-supported underwriting decisions. This position requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of risk pool management, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite STD and LTD group insurance opportunities.
• Prepare financial offers and rate calculations for new and renewing clients.
• Provide rationale and documentation for underwriting decisions.
• Analyze financial exhibits and develop expense estimates.
• Collaborate with Sales and internal teams to support client needs.
• Apply organizational and departmental strategies to underwriting practices.
• Make informed decisions with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in (Short term disability) STD and (Long term disability) LTD underwriting and risk analysis.
• Strong understanding of risk pool management and competitor landscape.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Commitment to improving consumer experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience analyzing disability and health-related data.
• Industry-related coursework (preferred but not required).
• Familiarity with Dental, Vision, and/or Life insurance plans.
