Role Overview

They are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Underwriter/Underwriting Specialist to join their complex accounts team. This group is responsible for underwriting the most sophisticated and high-exposure accounts in the portfolio, including those with total property limits in excess of $100 million.

This is a highly visible role with national reach, suited to underwriting professionals who thrive in high-stakes environments and are energized by complex challenges. The Underwriting Specialist will manage a dedicated book of new and renewal business, serving as a primary contact while collaborating with internal teams and broker partners to achieve strong underwriting results.

***This is a hybrid role in San Diego, CA - only San Diego-based candidates or those open to self-relocate to San Diego will be considered for this opportunity.***

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite and market a book of large, complex personal lines risks through broker partners
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external distribution partners
• Achieve renewal and retention goals through effective negotiation and communication, including occasional in-person meetings with brokers and clients
• Identify and pursue new business and cross-sell opportunities
• Maintain underwriting files in accordance with authority statements and guidelines
• Participate in audits and reviews of specific product lines
• Leverage advanced underwriting and producer management tools to meet profitability targets
• Conduct independent sales calls to support business development
• Recommend updates to guidelines, workflows, and processes
• Contribute to marketing and underwriting projects that support organizational growth
• Travel as needed for business purposes

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in personal lines P&C insurance
• Experience underwriting large/complex HNW accounts is preferred
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
• Strong knowledge of underwriting practices, policies, and procedures
• Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and communication skills
• Proven ability to independently manage a personal book of business
• Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and a collaborative attitude
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Active P&C and surplus lines licenses, or ability to obtain promptly (with company support)
