Job summary

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a Senior Security Officer (unarmed) to ensure a safe and secure environment across all CSHL properties. The role involves operating security vehicles, enforcing policies, and coordinating with first responders as needed.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 5+ years in private security or law enforcement, NYS security guard license, valid driver’s license, and CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a private security professional role or equivalent.
• Current License to practice as a Security Guard in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and monitor buildings and grounds to protect life and property and to prevent fire, thefts, vandalism, illegal entry, and unlawful/unauthorized activity.
• Respond to security/facility system alarms and emergency situations; serve as on-scene liaison with local first responders.
• Enforce security policy, secure doors, locks, and activate/de-activate alarms as required.
• Control and regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic in a safe, orderly, and respectful manner.
• Operate and maintain security vehicles and all security/facility equipment per policies.
• Write and maintain incident reports and daily logs per CSHL policies.
• Report hazards and enforce parking policy; escort employees, students, residents, and guests after hours.
• Assist Department of Security personnel as required.
• Perform other security-related duties assigned by the Director/Assistant Director of Security.
