A Day in the Life

Medtronic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Affera Mapping and Ablation System Software Team. This role is pivotal in designing and developing intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that enhance the usability and functionality of our advanced medical devices.

The Senior UI/UX Software Engineer will be a key player in the Affera Software Team, working on cutting-edge technology in the electrophysiology field. This role offers a rare chance to be at the forefront of developing a groundbreaking technology that can disrupt the industry. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about crafting innovative solutions that enhance user experiences and make a tangible difference in patients' lives.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience designing, developing, and testing real-time high-performance visualization software applications. They will take ownership of critical software features, collaborating closely with other engineering teams to bring these features to life.

Experience with regulatory compliance and security protocols specific to medical software (e.g., HIPAA, FDA regulations) is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver at heart, adept at diagnosing and resolving complex problems while optimizing for performance. With a passion for continuous learning and improvement, they stay ahead of the curve, leveraging the latest technologies and methodologies to drive efficiency and innovation within the software development team.

About the Affera Mapping and Ablation System

The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.

*This role will sit onsite at 320 Nevada St. #401, Newton, MA 02460 with the potential to work a hybrid schedule*

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, real-time visualization applications in a collaborative team environment.

  2. Take ownership of key software features, driving their development from concept through to production.

  3. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, QA, and DevOps, to ensure seamless integration and high-quality software delivery.

  4. Optimize software performance, ensuring low latency, high reliability, and scalability in a regulated environment.

  5. Implement and maintain robust software testing strategies, including unit, integration, and automated testing to ensure high-quality code.

  6. Document software designs, coding practices, and development workflows to maintain high levels of clarity and consistency within the team.

  7. Stay current with the latest developments in software engineering, particularly in the areas of medical technology, visualization, and real-time systems.

  8. Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies within the team.

  9. Attend and participate in pre-clinical in-vivo system evaluations.

  10. Participate in laboratory demonstrations for internal stakeholders and clinicians.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Qt/QML.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

  • Extensive experience in real-time software development and optimization.

  • Proficient in programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with software version control systems, such as Git.

  • Experience with graphical rendering libraries (e.g., OpenGL, Vulkan) and/or game engine technologies (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).

  • Experience working with UI designers and implementing UI designed in Figma or similar.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.

  • Experience with cloud-based platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure).

  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices, including automated testing and deployment.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $120,000.00 - $180,000.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
