Job summary

LivaNova, a global medtech company, seeks a UI Designer to deliver intuitive experiences for an implantable medical device platform and its connected-care ecosystem. You will translate clinical workflows into pixel-perfect interfaces, prototypes and production-ready specs, collaborating with product, engineering, regulatory, and marketing to align on safety, usability, and go‑to‑market needs.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Product UI Designer with at least 3 recent years in the medical device industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and proven cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Fluent with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent design tools.
  • Design systems experience: creating, maintaining, and scaling component libraries for multi‑product consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategic evolution of LivaNova’s multi-brand Design System, driving improvements to components, tokens, and documentation.
  • Resolve complex, cross-functional UI issues spanning multiple products and teams.
  • Define and scale UI operations, establishing practices and workflows that ensure consistent, repeatable delivery.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineering, human factors, regulatory, legal, security, and marketing.
  • Elevate UI best practices by documenting standardized processes, templates, and governance.
  • Define information architecture and data flows for device and companion applications.
  • Produce high-fidelity UI designs, pixel-perfect screens and assets.
  • Build interactive prototypes for concept validation and alignment.
  • Deliver production-ready specs, annotated designs, and developer handoff artifacts.
  • Maintain and evolve the design system with reusable components and documentation.

The UI Designer defines and delivers intuitive, visually compelling user experiences for an implantable medical device platform and its connected‑care ecosystem. This role combines strong visual design skills with user‑centered product design. They translate clinical workflows and user needs into elegant interfaces, rapid prototypes, and validated experiences across multiple concurrent products while preserving a consistent product‑family experience.

General Responsibilities
  • Own the strategic evolution of LivaNova’s multi‑brand Design System, driving continuous improvements to components, tokens, and documentation, ensuring the system scales to meet the needs of multiple concurrent products and cross‑functional teams across the organization.
  • Resolve complex, cross‑functional design issues spanning multiple products, teams, and technical constraints, serving as the senior escalation point for high‑complexity UI problems.
  • Define and scale UI operations establishing team best practices, design processes, and workflows that elevate UI maturity across the organization and ensure consistent, repeatable delivery, and alignment at scale.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, engineering, human factors, regulatory, legal, security, and marketing to align on safety, usability, and go‑to‑market needs.
  • Elevate UI best practices and methodologies by defining, documenting, and sharing standardized design processes, templates, and governance to ensure consistent, repeatable delivery.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Define information architecture: establish navigation, content hierarchy, and data flows for device and companion applications.
  • Produce high‑fidelity UI designs: deliver pixel‑perfect screens, visual assets, and motion cues that reflect brand and clinical needs.
  • Build interactive prototypes: create clickable prototypes for concept validation, stakeholder reviews, and engineering alignment.
  • Deliver production‑ready specs: provide annotated designs, component specs, and developer handoff artifacts (tokens, assets, logic rules/states, and guidelines).
  • Maintain and evolve the design system: create reusable components, documentation, and versioning to ensure portfolio consistency.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience as a Product UI Designer with at least 3 recent years of experience within the medical device industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and proven cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Highly motivated self‑starter who proactively drives outcomes, negotiates trade‑offs, and works independently when needed.
  • Excellent teamwork, partnering, and negotiation abilities to align stakeholders and move projects forward.
  • Experience applying mobile and web interface standards such as Android Material Design and Apple Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Fluent with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent design, prototyping, and research tools.
  • Design systems experience: creating, maintaining, and scaling component libraries and documented patterns for multi‑product consistency.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
  • Candidates who come from a different educational focus can still be considered assuming they have the requisite experience and relevant certifications or coursework.
Location & Travel Requirements
  • This position will be based at our Houston area site.
  • Moderate travel may be required (up to 25%).
Pay Transparency
  • A reasonable estimate of the annual base salary for this position is $160,000 - $180,000 plus discretionary annual bonus. Pay ranges may vary by location.
