Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Senior Propulsion Design Engineer to lead propulsion hardware development for the X-BAT platform, spanning from early layout through production release, test support, and flight operations. You will own design and release of propulsion hardware across engine, fuel, oil, and bleed air systems, create NX CAD models with GD&T, and collaborate with machine shops, production, and flight test teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years in aerospace hardware design, preferably propulsion systems.
• Experience with CAD modeling and GD&T.
• Hands-on experience with production, machinists, and assemblies.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain ITAR clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and release of propulsion hardware for engine, fuel, oil, and bleed air systems.
• Develop and maintain CAD models and drawings using NX with GD&T.
• Translate architecture into manufacturable, testable hardware for flight.
• Collaborate with machine shop, production, and technicians to support builds and tests.
• Provide design support during test campaigns and iterate based on findings.
• Apply analysis (hand calcs, ANSYS, FEA) for sizing and validation.
• Support configuration management and change processes (PLM).
• Participate in design reviews and IC efforts for propulsion hardware.
