Overview

Lynker Corporation is a leading provider of innovative solutions in weather and climate science. We leverage cutting-edge technologies and scientific expertise to support improved operational weather forecasts. We are seeking a Junior Turtle Ecologist Support Specialist for a potential long-term contract under FLOAT, a joint venture with Fish serving NOAA ProTech Fisheries. This position may be seasonal with periods of downtime.

Responsibilities

The role involves analysis, statistical consultation, synthesis, and report writing on sea turtle ecology and population dynamics. Data sources include captures, surveys, acoustic recordings, tagging, health assessments, environmental sampling, photogrammetry, ROVs, remote sensing, and others. Tasks may include:

  • Statistical consultation on sea turtle studies
  • Distribution and abundance estimates
  • Animal behavior and ecology
  • Health assessments, morphometrics, and physiological studies
  • Simulation studies on population dynamics and management strategies
  • Spatial management and climate impact assessments
  • Ecological relationship evaluations
  • Stock identification and vital rates estimation
  • Impacts assessment and conservation research

Field and lab support includes preparing for and participating in fieldwork, handling live or carcass turtles, operating small boats, and contributing to reports. Database management involves maintaining biological samples, developing image/video libraries, and updating web content.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with data management and analysis
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Advanced degree (PhD, Veterinary, or equivalent) in marine ecology, conservation biology, or similar

Additional requirements for field work:

  • Medical clearance and safety certifications
  • 20/20 vision (corrected)
  • Ability to work outdoors on small boats for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs safely
  • Willingness to work far from home for weeks
  • Compliance with NOAA Small Boat Requirements
