Job summary

MITRE in Chantilly, VA, is seeking an AI/ML engineer to lead data analysis and model development for national security and mission-focused tasks. You will apply AI techniques to forecast, classify, and triage sponsor problems, build production-ready pipelines, and communicate results to stakeholders.

The role requires strong Python with HuggingFace/PyTorch, a TS/SCI clearance with poly, and on-site presence four days a week.

Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of AI experience with a relevant degree; or 2 years with a Master’s; or PhD.
Hands-on with fine-tuning, deploying and evaluating large language models or Agentic AI.
Proficient in Python and frameworks like HuggingFace, PyTorch, and MLflow.
Ability to learn new technologies and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Must hold Top Secret/SCI with Poly clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
On-site presence required four days per week.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership by applying data analysis and AI techniques to sponsor missions.
Select and evaluate AI models for forecasting, classification, and triage; tailor for production.
Design and implement data normalization and ETL functions for studies.
Define studies with hypothesis, experiment design and execution in small teams.
Propose approaches and prototypes to validate concepts and demonstrate value.
Document prototypes and study results and outline transitions to production.
