Job summary

Northern Trust seeks a Senior Legal Counsel for Trust & Advisory/Wealth Management Legal to advise on trusts, estates, guardianship and transfer taxes. The role involves reviewing fiduciary documents, providing legal counsel to Wealth Management, and supporting risk and compliance initiatives.

Ideal candidates have a J.D. and at least 10 years of experience, with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively across teams.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and State Bar license.
• Candidates in IL or DE, FL, TX are acceptable with jurisdictional licensure.
• At least 10 years of experience in trusts and estates at a major firm or in-house.
• Strong trust and estate knowledge across fiduciary matters and transfer taxes.
• Ability to work independently with sharp legal analysis and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Review wills and trust agreements to advise fiduciary matters.
• Provide legal counsel on trust, estate administration and litigation issues.
• Assess risks and regulatory compliance for wealth management teams.
• Support committees with legal risk assessments.
• Educate internal partners and represent the bank at events.
