Job summary

Stepan Company in Joliet, IL is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to join our Transportation team. You will secure carrier services, use SAP and TMS to plan shipments, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support supply chain execution across North America.

The role includes after-hours coverage on a rotating schedule, performance monitoring of carriers, and ongoing optimization of routes and costs.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ relevant experience required.
• 5-7 years’ experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• TMS and SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Effectively manage carrier selection utilizing the Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Follow the current carrier rt guide while meeting the requirements and objectives of our customers and manufacturing sites.
• Proficiency in executing load tendering processes with timely follow up.
• Able to create effective plans to meet customer service requirements at the optimal cost.
• Collaborate with Stepan Manufacturing sites to ensure takeaway needs are met by utilizing carrier tanker trlr’s or containers through preloading, forward staging, or providing interplant options.
• Address all assignment-specific shipment events and problem solve resolution with internal and external stakeholders (Carriers, PPIC, Customer Service, Plants, Tollers, Trans loaders, and Outside Warehouses).
• Able to understand freight performance measures, support investigation, and provide feedback on carrier performance.
• Monitors and actively engages in carrier performance to drive high service metrics.
• Reviews and approves exception accessorial charges in real time by adding surcharge notes at the shipment level for clear visibility for our finance team.
• Participates in a rotating schedule covering after hrs Transportation
• Supervise, optimize, and execute specialized business
