Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner based in Austin, Texas, to lead planning, programming and engineering efforts for the Transportation team. You will conduct feasibility studies, safety analyses, ITS studies including autonomous vehicles, and advise on policy and project selection for MPOs at state and national levels.

Position Summary:

Position serves a key role in transportation planning, programming, and engineering as part of the newly created TetraTech National Transportation Planning Practice. The successful candidate will conduct transportation planning and feasibility studies, safety analyses, study and advise on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to include autonomous vehicles . The successful candidate will also advise on transportation policy and project selection processes on long-range plans, Transportation Improvement Programs, and Congestion Management Systems for state and national Metropolitan Planning Organizations.

Essential Job Functions:

• Oversees and/or conducts field work for surface transportation studies.
• Prepares documents, technical reports, and memorandums.
• You should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate and compare different transportation alternatives and develop feasible and effective mitigation measures and monitoring plans.
• Establish budgets and schedules for assigned projects.
• Maintains liaison with clients on assigned projects and see that regular project reports are made to clients.
• Maintains liaison with join venture partners, associates, and consultants.
• Handles arrangements with and maintain liaison with regulatory agencies.
• Assists the National Transportation Planning Practice Leader and Office Leader as appropriate in determining appropriate training for assigned staff.
• Pursues continuous professional development and maintains a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Identification of upcoming trends relating to sustainability, resiliency, multimodal/intermodal transportation (including vertiports, freight, high-capacity transit, etc.), transportation accessibility and inclusion, etc. .
• Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ Years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, engineering or equivalent
• Experience managing a team
• Effective communication and writing skills
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to proactively develop a network of key relationships internally and externally
• Teamwork skills, including demonstrated success promoting a collaborative and productive work environment for all team members
• Demonstrated experience analyzing complex transportation systems and advising clients on alternatives

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in urban planning, engineering or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience working on regional traffic management systems protocols and policies
• Demonstrated experience working with large transportation data sets
• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning and programming at the federal, state, and local levels
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred
