Position Details

Responsibilities
  • Driver is responsible for transporting clients to and from various medical appointments and other appointments as needed. Complete assignments and all paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Review and check transportation schedule before departure and bring any issues or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and maintenance: ensure adequate fuel, oil, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, and that handicap accessibility equipment is functional.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle as needed and directed.
  • Notify Transportation Supervisor when the vehicle needs repair or service.
  • Maintain a driving log and track mileage on the TSA vehicle.
  • Inspect and complete an inspection form before departure or when changing vehicles; ensure safety equipment is on board and tires are in good condition.
  • File all driver’s reports, transportation requests, and vehicle inspection forms.
  • Maintain contact with supervisor at all times; ensure agency-issued cell phone is charged and operational. Report lost or damaged devices immediately.
  • Report any accident/incident immediately upon return; submit a written report within 24 hours.
  • Provide assistance to passengers per agency policies. No lifting of passengers.
  • Notify customers of changes in arrival/departure times and maintain good customer relations and service.
  • Follow all driving laws, including seat belt usage.
  • Serve as back-up dispatcher when needed. Duties include: scheduling rides, coordinating driver assignments, communicating with drivers and clients, handling transportation requests, monitoring routes, and resolving scheduling issues in real time.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to push and pull a wheelchair and secure it in the vehicle
  • Stand, walk, reach, and bend
  • Walk on uneven surfaces including outdoor sidewalks
  • Ability to work in rain, snow, andicy conditions
  • Ability to operate a vehicle for 8 hours
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: One year of driving a van or bus; experience with older adults preferred
  • Requirements: Valid Michigan Chauffeur’s license required (license can be obtained after offer). Preference for CDL Class B with passenger endorsement. Must be able to operate cell phone/two-way radios, GPS, and general office equipment. Must demonstrate proper wheelchair securement and passenger safety. First Aid/CPR certified and able to operate an AED. Agency provides First Aid/CPR/AED training on starting employment.
