Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) in New Albany, OH is seeking a Senior/Principal Project Estimator to join the Project Management/Controls team. You will lead highly technical estimates for transmission line and substation projects, develop cost models, and mentor junior estimators to strengthen our estimating capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management or related field PLUS a minimum of four (4) year of experience in engineering, design, estimating, project management, or construction execution.
• OR Associate's Degree in a related field of study PLUS 6 years experience in engineering, design, project management, estimating, or construction execution.

Responsibilities

• Support project sponsors in development of conceptual estimates; collaborate with engineering, project management, and other stakeholders in the development of the detailed project scope of work, including for very complex projects; prepare detailed project cost estimates based on the approved scope of work.
• Interface with planning, engineering, project engineering/management, outage management, construction, and operating company personnel to identify/initiate, scope, status and follow-up estimate efforts; provide recommendations and guidance regarding estimate approach and input requirements.
• Establish policies and procedures for allocating risk-based contingency; monitor labor market trends; track equipment pricing trends; develop and analyze historical records of project costs; critique designs for cost effectiveness.
• Adhere to standard processes and procedures for estimating; review basis and assumptions for completeness and reasonableness; develop services labor estimates with departments.
• Provide advanced technical direction and guidance regarding estimate approach/development and resolution of estimate issues.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management or related field
