Job summary

Substation Engineering Company (SECo) is seeking a mid to senior-level Structural Engineer to design and support high-voltage transmission projects (69kV–765kV). You will develop calculations, drawings and estimates and mentor junior staff, while ensuring adherence to industry standards.

The role requires a Civil/Structural engineering background, 7+ years of relevant experience, and a PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in structural and foundation engineering
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience designing steel, wood and concrete structures and foundations
• Professional Engineering license required or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months
• Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE
• Ability to independently work through individual projects and collaborate on broader projects
• Strong written and verbal communication in English
• Commitment to customer service and teamwork

Responsibilities

• Performs complex structural engineering tasks to prepare calculations, drawings, construction documents and estimates for transmission projects
• Develops and maintains design standards and specifications for overhead and underground transmission lines
• Provides engineering guidance to support construction and line ratings through LiDAR surveys and other inspections
• Leads and mentors junior engineers and technicians on design projects
• Reviews work to ensure compliance with codes, standards and industry practices
• Monitors budgets and schedules for assigned tasks
• Guides the development of drawings with designers and drafters

Job Description:

Mid to senior-level structural engineering position focusing on the performance of both routine and complex activities and tasks related to the design of high voltage transmission lines (69kV through 765kV).

Typical duties include (but are not limited to):

• Performs complex tasks requiring the application of structural engineering techniques and procedures to prepare calculations, drawings, construction documents and engineering estimates and evaluations for construction projects, using in-depth experience and knowledge of structural design.
• Develops and maintains design standards, material and equipment specifications, construction standards and engineering practices for overhead and underground transmission lines.
• Anticipates engineering and construction needs and provides advice and recommendations to support construction.
• Lends support to the establishment of line ratings through LiDAR survey evaluation and other survey and inspection methods.
• Leads and mentors less experienced team members to manage and execute design projects and construction support.
• Reviews work of others to assure adherence to client and industry codes, standards and good utility practice.
• Monitors budget and schedule for assigned tasks.
• Works with designers, drafters and lower-level engineers to guide the development of drawings.

Desired Education, Experience, and Training:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in structural and foundation engineering, or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in the design of steel, wood and concrete structures and foundations.
• Professional Engineering license required or the ability to obtain licensure within 12 months.
• Proficient in the use of PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE.
• Ability to independently work through individual projects and also play a key role in broader projects.
• Accuracy and attention to detail as well as ability to meet deadlines and complete assignments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
