Job summary

ISG is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer in Sioux Falls, SD to design overhead transmission projects from concept through construction, focusing on 25 kV+ systems and high-voltage expertise with tools like PLS-CADD and AutoCAD.

You will collaborate with ROW, environmental, and project management teams to deliver robust solutions, perform structural analysis and sag-tension checks, and develop detailed design packages for bidding and construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in the design and analysis of transmission lines (25kV and above).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• Solid understanding of electrical and structural engineering principles related to high-voltage systems.
• Proficiency in design software including PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, FAD Tools, and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of industry standards and codes such as NESC, IEEE, and ASCE.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission line routes, configurations, and structures to meet client specifications and regulatory standards for systems 25kV and above.
• Perform structural analysis, sag-tension calculations, and clearance checks using industry-standard tools to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant designs.
• Develop detailed design packages for bidding, permitting, and construction.
• Partner with ROW, environmental, and project management teams to successfully deliver transmission projects.
• Conduct site visits to evaluate terrain, identify constraints, and review practical design solutions.
• Assist with estimates, schedules, and procurement strategies.
• Provide construction-phase support to address design changes and ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines.
• Maintain knowledge of client standards, current codes, and industry best practices.
• Engage with clients through regular meetings, providing updates and technical insight.

We are looking for a Transmission Line Engineer to support our Transmission Line Team within our Power Group. In this role, you will design overhead transmission projects from concept through construction, playing a key role in shaping the infrastructure that powers communities. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams and leveraging tools like PLS-CADD and AutoCAD, your expertise in high-voltage systems will help you solve complex challenges and deliver reliable, innovative solutions. Within our Energy Business Unit, ISG’s Power Group plays a vital role in delivering resilient infrastructure solutions nationwide.
