The Opportunity
At Phase X, the Senior Transmission Engineer is a technical leader and subject matter expert responsible for driving the quality and success of high-voltage transmission line projects from concept through construction. You will leverage deep expertise in transmission design, line modeling, structural loading, and plan and profile development to deliver complex projects with precision — while mentoring the engineers and designers around you.
In this role, you will own the engineering execution of major project scopes — leading multi-discipline coordination with our structural and substation teams, making critical design decisions, and serving as the primary technical point of contact with clients. You will develop and review engineering deliverables, define workflows and best practices, and apply your experience to anticipate and resolve design, constructability, and field challenges before they impact schedule or budget.
A successful Senior Transmission Engineer at Phase X brings authoritative technical judgment, polished communication, and a track record of delivering high-voltage projects on time and to standard. You will set the bar for engineering quality, serve as a key client-facing representative, and play a direct role in shaping the capabilities of our growing team.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead engineering execution for high-voltage transmission line projects, including scope definition, technical decision-making, and quality oversight
- Develop and review advanced transmission line models using PLS CADD and related tools for structure loading, line design, and plan and profile development
- Lead structure design and foundation analysis in collaboration with internal structural teams, providing senior-level review and sign-off on deliverables
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies — leading project meetings, technical presentations, and design reviews
- Author, review, and approve engineering deliverables including drawings, bill of materials, structure loading reports, plan and profiles, and specifications
- Direct coordination with our substation engineering group to ensure proper integration at line terminations and system interfaces
- Mentor and technically develop mid-level and junior engineers and designers; provide structured QA review and constructive feedback
- Lead or support site visits, field reviews, and construction support — applying senior judgment to resolve field conditions and design deviations
- Ensure all designs rigorously comply with NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and applicable utility standards; serve as the team’s primary standards resource
- Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, templates, and design standards across the team
What We're Looking For:
Must be authorized to work in the United States as this position is not eligible for sponsorship
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
- 8+ Years of Experience in Transmission Line Engineering or Power Delivery Engineering, with demonstrated progression in technical responsibility
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-discipline high-voltage transmission projects from kickoff through construction support
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to clients and leading technical meetings
- Expert-level proficiency with Transmission Design software including PLS CADD, PLS Pole, and PLS Tower
- Comprehensive knowledge of NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and utility-specific standards for transmission and power delivery; ability to serve as the team’s standards authority
- Experience mentoring engineers and conducting technical QA reviews; willingness to participate in field work, site walks, and occasional travel
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint) and familiarity with drafting and modeling tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Inventor
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority engineering tasks, allocate resources, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-discipline environment
- Ability to work independently and lead others, exercising senior-level judgment while remaining a strong collaborative team contributor
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural or Mechanical Preferred)
- Active Professional Engineering (PE) License — required or strongly preferred
- Experience leading transmission projects for major IOUs, municipal utilities, or independent power producers
- Experience with 3D structural analysis tools including RISA 3D, SAP 2000, or equivalent
- Experience with foundation design tools including RISA Foundation, L Pile, or FAD Tools
- Strong understanding of power delivery structural design codes including ASCE 10,
- Exposure to related technical areas such as geotechnical engineering, civil site development, or electrical engineering; background in business development support or proposal writing
- Experience developing or working with MathCAD design templates or equivalent engineering calculation workflows
