Job Description

AECOM has a position available for a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with experience focused on Substation and Transmission & Distribution projects to support our growing Energy Business Line. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Serves as lead engineer and Engineering of Record on small to mid-size projects
  2. Prepare overhead line design using PLS-CADD
  3. Transmission line structural design using PLS-Tower and/or PLS-Pole
  4. Substation support structures and foundation design
  5. Environmental Load Development for transmission and distribution assets. "Wind, Ice, Seismic, etc."
  6. Comprehensive understanding within civil/structural engineering and strong understanding of other engineering disciplines
  7. Provide mentorship for the other civil/structural engineers versed with the preparation and execution of civil/structural project scope
  8. Fully versed with codes, permits and software applications related to civil/structural engineering for substation and transmission & distribution projects
  9. Fully versed with and can check and review the work sequence, general content and the methods used to generate specifications for the calculations as well as the approval, revision, retention and storage of calculations
  10. Can oversee the review and checking of construction and vendor drawings
  11. Capable of reviewing interdisciplinary vendor documents
  12. Assists with developing task and effort estimates for proposal support
  13. Understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within the civil/structural discipline
  14. Works to maintain positive working relationships with peers
  15. Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  16. Occasional travel required to other AECOM locations and Client sites
  17. Able to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
  2. Current professional engineering license(s) (PE)
  3. 6 years of applicable engineering relevant experience
  4. Experience must include structural design for electrical substation and/or transmission and distribution

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of relevant transmission and distribution experience with at least three of those years acting as project technical lead and/or engineer of record.
  2. Progressive professional experience in the modeling, analysis and design of steel structures and foundations
  3. Proficiency in PLS-CADD packages (PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, etc.)
  4. Experience with structural analysis software (e.g. StaadPRO, MFAD, L-Pile, SAP2000)
  5. Professional Engineering license in Civil or Structural Engineering in California
  6. Experience with California Electric Utilities
  7. Proficient in industry codes and standards (e.g. NESC, G.O.95, ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, IEEE 693, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, ASCE design guidelines)
  8. Self-motivated
  9. Effective written and verbal communication skills
  10. Success in working with remote teams
  11. Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  12. Owner’s Engineering experience
  13. Experience with retrofit or brown field projects
  14. Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects

Additional Information

Relocation assistance is not available for this role. Sponsorship for US Employment Authorization is available for this position. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $160,000.00.
