Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Baltimore is seeking a Senior Transit Facility Design Engineer to join the Transit Group and support maintenance facility projects. You will review operations, design equipment layouts, and coordinate with architects and engineers to optimize facilities for bus and rail operations.

The role requires 16+ years of rail/transit design and a Maryland-PE; PMP preferred, strong communication, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structure, Industrial or Mechanical Eng or related field.
• 16+ years in planning, design, management and implementation of rail and transit projects.
• Rail/bus facility design and construction experience; emphasis on rail facilities.
• Proven leadership on large-scale projects from planning to commissioning.
• P.E. designation in Maryland; DC/DE/PA/VA a plus; PMP preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of transit vehicle operations, processes and standards.
• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and TEAMS; PDF review software (Adobe/Bluebeam).
• AutoCAD and/or BIM preferred; Microstation a plus.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and offices.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver design services on-time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
• Analyze operational processes to improve efficiency.
• Review client programs to determine facility space needs.
• Develop equipment layouts with management and users.
• Design facility layouts and equipment; coordinate rolling stock needs.
• Prepare construction drawings and bid specifications.
• Review submittals during construction.
• Apply expert knowledge in planning, design, and scheduling.
• Provide expert opinions, high-level reports, and presentations.
• Assist in client relations and project management in the region.
• Participate in scoping, fee estimating, proposals and negotiations.
• Define work requirements and integrated design schedules and budgets.
• Manage project execution to meet scope, budget and schedule.
