Job summary

The City of Tukwila seeks a Streets Signal - Senior Maintenance and Operations Specialist in Public Works to install, maintain, and modify the city’s traffic signal system. The role involves journey-level work and serving as a lead on projects.

Under the general supervision of the Streets Superintendent, the position requires knowledge of electrical and controls principles, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; three years of specialized maintenance or operations experience.
• Valid Driver's License with applicable Commercial Driver License endorsements.
• IMSA or related certifications are preferred for advanced signaling work.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, safety inspections, and testing of facilities, equipment, and systems requiring specialized knowledge in order to determine normal operating parameters.
• Follows specialized troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures to determine malfunction cause and repair needs of systems and equipment, including deciding whether to repair, replace, or upgrade components.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and instruments.
• Responds to inquiries, complaints, and service requests for assigned field.
• Directs and controls traffic, including placing traffic cones and signs; flagging traffic; and closing lanes and streets.
• Coordinates the availability of materials and equipment for service and maintenance requirements.
• Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
• Inventories supplies and makes minor purchases as needed.
• Serves as a lead worker to skilled staff or on projects, including planning, scheduling, and assigning work projects.
• Performs duties as Acting Maintenance and Operations Foreman as required.
