Job summary

AECOM's Traffic/ITS Department in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to develop and maintain traffic forecasting standards and prepare forecasts for highway projects. The role oversees complex travel demand forecasts, coordinates with engineering firms, and ensures adherence to engineering principles and standards.

Ideal applicants have a Civil Engineering degree, 8+ years in traffic forecasting, a North Carolina PE license (or within 6 months), and proficiency with TransCAD;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering.
• Eight years of experience in traffic forecasting or equivalency.
• PE license in NC or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with TransCAD.
• Traffic engineering and/or transportation planning experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication, time management, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain administrative and technical standards for traffic forecasting.
• Prepare traffic forecasts for highway projects in the STIP.
• Produce complex travel demand forecasts with data selection and analysis.
• Estimate current and forecast future traffic volumes.
• Prepare technical reports detailing forecasting processes and decisions.
• Determine and prepare scopes of work for traffic forecasts.
• Monitor progress and perform quality control checks.
• Manage assigned projects/tasks and schedule.
• Develop new business by fostering client relationships.
• Periodic travel within North Carolina.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Traffic/ITS Department is actively seeking a creative, self-driven, highly talented Senior Traffic Engineer for employment in the Raleigh, NC office. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining traffic forecasting standards and preparing forecasts for highway projects. This role involves managing complex travel demand forecasts, overseeing professional engineering firms, and ensuring compliance with engineering principles and standards.

• Develop and maintain administrative and technical standards for traffic forecasting.
• Prepare traffic forecasts for highway projects in the State Transportation Improvement Program.
• Produce complex travel demand forecasts including data selection and analysis.
• Estimate current and forecast future traffic volumes.
• Prepare technical reports detailing the forecasting processes and decisions.
• Determine and prepare scopes of work for traffic forecasts.
• Monitor progress of work and perform quality control checks.
• Effectively manage assigned projects/tasks and be in responsible charge of task activities and schedule.
• Develop new business by fostering existing and new client relationships
• Periodic travel required within North Carolina.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering
• Eight years of experience in traffic forecasting or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license in North Carolina or the ability to acquire within 6 months.
• Experience in TransCAD.
• Experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation planning.
• Experience demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills, effective time management, a results-oriented work ethic, and exceptional attention to detail in a fast-paced professional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ten years of experience in traffic forecasting.
• Experience with additional related software’s such as GIS, TransModeler and Synchro.
• Experience supporting NEPA and long-range planning efforts, including the application of forecasting data to environmental documentation, corridor studies, and statewide and metropolitan transportation plans.
• Experience coordinating with MPOs, DOTs, and other planning partners to ensure consistency with regional travel demand models, forecasting methodologies, and planning assumptions.
• Experience applying and interpreting FHWA, FTA, and state transportation planning guidelines and regulations related to traffic analysis, travel demand forecasting, and transportation planning studies.
