Job summary

Stantec in New York City is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer / Business Developer to lead transportation projects and drive client engagements. The role blends engineering leadership with business development in a collaborative team.

You will mentor staff, manage resources to meet budgets and schedules, and collaborate with roadway and structural engineers on iterative designs. In addition, you will present at public meetings and support stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • PE license in NY/NJ/CT; PTOE and/or RSP certifications are a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in transportation engineering, 8 years in project management, and 5 years with NYDOT/CTDOT/NJDOT.

  • Actively participates and leads business development by delivering quality work, providing excellent client service, and assisting in preparing proposals on various pursuits.
  • Helps lead our team of TPTE professionals. Manages resources to ensure projects are completed accurately and within budget and time frame.
  • Takes an active mentoring role; encourages, motivates, and develops staff for high performance.
  • Leads transportation planning studies, traffic impact analyses, and safety assessments – including Environmental Impact Assessments and Planning and Environmental Linkages studies
  • Participates in interviews and hiring of new staff members.
  • Collaborate with roadway and structural engineers on iterative design processes
  • Represents the organization at professional organizations and conferences.
  • Present technical concepts at public meetings and support stakeholder engagement

We’re seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer / Business Developer to join our growing traffic team in New York City. Your Opportunity

As a key member of our team, you’ll lead and support a variety of transportation projects that make a real impact:

About You

You’re passionate about creating safe, efficient, and equitable transportation systems. You bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field and a PE license in NY, NJ, or CT; PTOE and/or RSP certifications are a plus
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in transportation engineering, 8 years of experience in project management, and 5 years of experience working with NYDOT, CTDOT, and/or NJDOT.
  • Strong understanding of transportation planning and traffic engineering principles
  • Demonstrated skill at project management and business development.
  • Proven track record coordinating teams from different disciplines and delivering large scale transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with NEPA guidelines and regional standards (NY, NJ, CT)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings for diverse audiences
  • Proven leadership and ability to manage interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Pay Range
  • Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP)-$162,000.00 - $243,100.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
