Job summary

Miopartners is seeking a Senior Macro Trading Risk Manager in New York. This senior role involves leading risk management for commodity trading and overseeing other asset classes. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in commodities trading and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

Job description

Senior Macro Trading Risk Manager

The Senior Macro Trading Risk Manager will be the most senior position reporting to the Head of Macro Trading Risk. The role leads risk management of commodity trading books and oversees the risk of other asset classes, serving as a backup to the Head of Macro Trading Risk and supporting the CRO in evolving the market risk appetite framework.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an accurate understanding of and clearly communicate the loss potential for individual bets, themes, and commodity trading in aggregate, interpreting stress tests and performing ad‑hoc analyses to provide judgmental exposure estimates.
  • Act as a value‑adding thought partner to the Risk and Investment teams, assisting in approving temporary guideline exceeds and mitigating key risks.
  • Monitor market and portfolio risk profiles, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and actioning changes when necessary.
  • Improve and expand trading risk analytics, ensuring calculation frameworks reflect underlying positions and performing ad‑hoc analyses such as scenario and drill‑down reports.
  • Enhance understanding of market liquidity, onboarding new data sources and analyzing liquidity fluctuations across scenarios.
  • Expand oversight beyond commodities to other asset classes, oversee risk reporting, and support the CRO in evolving the market risk appetite framework.
Required Skills
  • Deep understanding of commodities, commodity markets, and trading strategies; experience with other asset classes is a plus.
  • Proven ability to engage portfolio managers as an independent risk manager, communicating clearly and gaining trust of senior leaders.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, prioritizing research and converging to reasonable conclusions quickly.
  • Comfort with introductory probability and statistics applied to financial risk management and ability to assess model limitations.
  • Good judgment, synthesizing information to draw sound risk conclusions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly productive, diligent, and detail‑oriented.
Experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience in commodities trading and/or commodity risk management at a hedge fund or bank, with preferred experience at a global macro or multi‑strategy fund focused on commodity trading.
  • First‑hand experience with industry‑standard multi‑asset class risk systems (e.g., RiskMetrics and Aladdin) preferred.
Education
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, philosophy, economics, computer science, or engineering; advanced degree preferred.
  • CFA, FRM, or PRMIA designations are a plus.

Base salary range: $200,000 – $200,000 USD.
